TYPES OF ANGLING

Salmon Fishing
Open season: February 1st to September 30th (Best time is April/ May during high spring waters on the Maigue)

For salmon fishing in the River Blackwater, contact Tight Lines tackle shop at Cappoquin.

A state licence is required (regional licence approx. €15).

Brown Trout Fishing
Open season: February 15th to September 30th.

Membership of Angling Club required. The cost is up to €5 per day, €10 per week per rod.
In all there are eight rivers in Ballyhoura Country, out of which six of these rivers are fished for Brown trout.

Coarse Fishing
There is no closed season.

Many of the waters including the international competition stretch of the Blackwater near Fermoy may be fished free of charge. Permit cost for Iniscarra Lake on the River Lee is €10 for the season. Rudd, Bream, Perch, Roach, Pike and Eel abound. Lough Gur is also another popular area for coarse fishing.
